April Showers ... and Your Home 🌧️

Rainy days are at their peak this time of year so it's important to stay on top of your home care, and MHS is here to help! Below are some tips & tricks for keeping your home safe during April's showers!

✅ Check your gutters. During the wetter months, it is especially important to confirm that your gutters are clean, clear, and leak-free. Check that they are draining properly and inspect them on rainy days to make sure there are no cracks that need to be addressed!

✅ Make your landscape work for you. Your landscape has a huge impact on your water runoff; it is important to ensure that the topography on your property is not directing water to your home and instead, guiding it safely to storm drain systems.

✅ Watch for pools. Checking your property for water pooling can give you an idea of what areas need a landscape update or better drain systems in place. It is also important to check the perimeter of your home for water pooling against your house as this could cause issues in the future.

✅ Watch for leaks. Rainy seasons can tell us a lot about our homes, like what areas need our attention! Outside of looking for water intrusion, soft spots on your floors, walls, or ceilings can be signs of a leak too. Discoloration on your walls or ceilings and increased humidity in your home are also things to watch out for.

✅ Inspect your drain systems. Increased mud or puddles in your yard can be an indicator that your property's drain systems need an inspection. If you notice these signs, reach out to a professional for further investigation!

✅ Check your seals. Your windows and doors have seals to protect the interior of your home from the elements; it is important to secure your seals to prevent water from getting in!
